Hold up. i THOUGHT YOU WERE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER.
⁉️ Nope. I'm an interior decorator - & yes there's a difference. Check out the info-graphic (right column).
Interior Decorator: Transforms the existing space using skills, textiles, furniture, paint, soft furnishings, tools and resources. Minor installations such as small shelving units, plug-in lamps, picture hanging, planters and low-level furniture building is done. But nothing beyond that. Interior Designer: The same as an interior decorator, but in and for a space that has not yet been built/ created/ utilized or has been and is being re-purposed/ refurbished. This includes knocking down/ building up cabinetry/ walls, managing large and mid scale installations (wiring, sinks and counter tops, etc.), and much more. When do you see the space?
👁️👁️ 🏠 The first time I see the space is at the "Go-See", which is after your initial contact and the "Meet & Greet" (usually a small public venue where we can have a drink/ coffee/ tea and chat). There, I meet with you and go over the details of your project.
I may view the space a couple times before final day to tweak anything, go over any changes project related (ie. discovery of pests, mold or water damage) or check out something I might have missed. Otherwise, "final day", is the day for set up and staging. Basically, it's the last time you'll see me in relation to the project. I live out of the North Lake Washingtion area. can you still work WITH me?*
🚗💻 IRL
As long as you're within a 10 mile radius of the Northlake area (zip 98028), there's no travel fees to worry about. I can serve up to 25 mile radius, but any further and just it's not time effective/ financially feasible for me.** Virtual I can do all the aspects of IRL/ F2F, with the exception of F2F for the Meet-Up, Go-See and final day. For these, I can meet online via cam chat and at a reduced cost of the F2Fs. With the understanding that I will need to hire painters, installers etc. for the handy work, I will ensure every detail is combed over for a sleek virtual experience. *All in-person work performed requiring human-to-human contact will need to follow the CDC safety and vaccination guidelines. No work will be performed/ conducted until the vaccination policies set by the CDC have been met and proof provided upon request. Equitable safety is my first concern - always. **I'm open minded 😉. Got the fiat (💸 💳 ฿)? Nice. Lez gooo! What if I am unhappy with your work?
... 😒... Option 1:
We'll structure a new agreement, distinct from the old one, making sure to smooth out all the initial wrinkles missed. Option 2: We'll have an open discussion about the value of the work that has been done so far, if the project is at an awkward point where the amount due is uncertain but you still want to cease activity. Think about how far the project has advanced and pay fees accordingly. Ex: - If I've finished 75% of the total work, subtract the initial 50% non-refundable retainer from that total and pay the remaining 25%. - If 50% of the work has been completed, no further payments are needed, as the retainer has taken care of this. will it cost a fortune? isn't it only for people with huge budgets?
🧐💳 Whatever the budget, I use my expertise to create a stunning look. I charge a decorating service fee, which includes meetings and culminates in a detailed estimate, mood boards, showing finishes, fabrics and ideas together with 2D/3D HD floor plans.
It won’t be my vibe.
🤷 A popular misconception is that decorators project their own personal taste into a client’s home and it won't reflect your tastes or styles.
This could not be further from #facts . I spend time talking to you to know what you want and need. I'll make recommendations and suggestions that aim to reflect your tastes and introduce a new perspective. I won't bully you into something you don't want. Ever. If a you want a bohemian loft look, a suburban glamorous home, or a London penthouse look, I'll work with different finishes and fabrics to reflect the feel you want. If you have OMG ideas, or love the way another property looks and want to replicate it to some degree, I'll do my best to find similar options. I'll keep it OG though. With access to so many beautiful fabrics and furniture options, there is rarely a need to do exactly the same thing. Interior decorating is done fast and cheap.
🏃💨¢ Yes... and no.
Not if you want it done well and keep it that way. The “60 minute makeover” concept and shows, while super fun (I love "Mr. Kate"), tend to perpetuate that lit pads are created on a tiny budget and a dream, in a nanoscopic time frame. A project can often take between 3 to 6 months from design to finish, without cutting corners or rushing decisions. Many shows showcase top of the range designer furniture and fabrics that are outside most people’s price ranges. As a rule, I don’t advocate this approach. I prefer to mix reasonably priced items with the slick key standout piece or fabric to create a wow factor and focus. Is there a contract?
📋✏️ Short answer: Yes.
Longer answer: I am an independent contractor. "Contract" is kinda in the name. Click here to view my ICA. Longest answer: I will always go over, revise where needed and make triple dog dare sure it's got everything you need and none of what you don't. I will even, upon request, send a copy of the contract for you to comb through and ask questions, before you sign a thing. You have the right to know what you're signing for. How do you charge?
💳 ฿ ✓ A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total service cost is due upfront (known as a "retainer), before work begins. The remaining 50% is due at project's end. Invoices will be provided via Square. Clients will have the option to pay through the provided invoice, or use any of the methods available on the "Services" tab in the "Already Ship It?" section.
Go-getters prefer to make advanced payments, but not everyone can make a monthly payment. Others prefer to chop it up into bite sized chunks, so it's one less thing on their list. This option is available for select few and at my discretion. I offer "FlexPay", "Monthly Pay" and "Pay with Crypto" so you can get on with being awesome. Here's how they work...
- Bitcoin (BTC) - Litecoin (LTC) (Want to try it out without actually making a payment? Click here, and select "Demo" to the right of "Get Started".) I invoice payments through Square Invoicing. All charges are tax included. I handle that, so you don't have to. I'm chill like that. Payment of the second/ last payment in full is due by the last day the month the project is completed, with a 3 day grace period following. Should the project complete on the last day of the month - 14 days, with a 3 day grace period following. A 10% (for every day following) interest charge will be applied for all late payments. *If implemented, the cancellation fee will be no less than 10% of the total service charge. ADDITIONAL COSTS?
😏 #notbornyesterday 😏 I do my best to give you a full cost outlook of each item, but additional costs such as storage, shipping, installation, or unexpected labor do occasionally happen. For a very detailed explanation of possible hidden costs read: The Hidden Costs of Interior Design
Can't I just buy my own stuff & have you place it?
🛋️ You hired me to design and complete a vision for your space, deal with details, any possible mishaps and shenanigans so that you don't have to.
I ask that you not select or purchase items (ie., "I found this AMAZE chair at [thrift shop/ discount furniture store/ rental store] and just had to get it!") or services (ie., "I called JonnyRae, my cousin - he's great with hobby projects, and he totally did a huge assist! I had him out that wall that we talked about." ◕_◕) without first consulting with me first. This is because it/ they/ that may not be the right fit for the design, space, or budget. You have my word: You'll always get a detailed invoice* for items/ services to be purchased before they are purchased. No items/ services will be ordered/ performed without first vetting, payment and scheduling by PMI/ Purple Moon Interiors/ Interior Decorator/ Nadia Reigna Silver through the budget, provided by you - my client. *All invoices will be approved and confirmed by you - my client - before anything is purchased/ paid for, via the budget. WHAT ABOUT BUDGET?
🏦 I'll def work within your budget, whether you are looking for a completely custom masterpiece, more along the lines of Pottery Barn or a mix of the two. Having a budget is very important for the project running smoothly and for your expectations to be met. However, and only when necessary, sometimes things come up and require (+/-) adjustment to the budget.
If this ever happens, I will contact you in advance ASAP. We'll then go over the budget changes v. the current budget, to see what next steps look like. Once a figure is reached, I'll resend a new invoice with the new amount, for your approval and my administration (once approved). DO YOU WORK WITH CONTRACTORS?
🚧🏗️👷♀️ I work with contractors hired by myself, paid for through the project's budget. I love working with other decor professionals to create your custom space. I prefer to use professionals that I have worked with on previous projects and can provide their information when necessary.
Purple Moon Interiors does not provide contractor services; so independent architects and contractors hired by the interior decorator are an integral part of the process. HOW LONG DO PROJECTS
NORMALLY Take? 📅 ⌚ This depends on the scope of the project and what's done. Usually, most projects take anywhere between 3-6 months to complete. However, sometimes life happens - hard; inclimate weather, vendor/ contractor vacations, factory errors and other unpredictable situations that are totally out of anyone's control. My hope is that everyone involved can adult, and work as a team during these rare but unique moments.
HOW DO I MAKE A
CONTRACT WITH YOU? 📋✍️🤝 Once you receive a Contract Proposal, you've got 3 days to accept, request some key changes or decline the item. For acceptance, a signed copy of the proposal or approval on projects along with full payment is required. Nothing will be done by Purple Moon Interiors/ Nadia Reigna Silver until a signed contract proposal and retainer is received.
