Events. DIY. Goals.
Seriously, what's got more glitz and glam than the holiday season?! Kwanzaa, Yule, Chaunukkah, Winter Solstice, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and Christmas all in the same month. No other month in the year is more celebrated than December. Memories...This post is going to be less clickbaity than you're used to from me. I want to share my own experiences, love and relationship with this time of year. Time to get to know the heart of my decor love. It's a hard kept tradition in my family to avoid the sheepleness that is Black Friday. Choosing instead to get those decorations up before any of our neighbors knew what hit them. As if by magick our home was annually transformed into a whirl of a winter wonderland, with me proudly at the helm. It became such a cherished position in my family that I made it a point to be the best gift wrapper, giver and lead the decorating march every year. I'd force my poor dad into the attic (bc spiders = nope), to retrieve all the stored holiday decor. I carefully inspected each bulb and string of lights for any breaks, tears and repairs. I even nicknamed my grands as "Mr. and Mrs. Clause". They lovingly tolerated my obsession; despite all my annual attempts to get them to hire elves and dress "their part". I was even worse at my family's church. The members of which had the good sense to tell me to chill and calm down when I got to be too much, lol. I was the most helpful in my school. I wasn't too fond of school most of the year. Once the holidays rolled around, it was like my poor confused teachers got a completely different child! I would craft decorations from cut and paste projects, help my classmates with theirs and even offer to stay during recess to help the teacher. Once, in middle school, I offered to bring my Home Economics teacher fresh boughs of holly from my own back yard for her holiday display window. She got 2 large paper grocery bags full. She would have gotten more if I could have smuggled them onto the school bus without more imposing stares and comments from my fellow riders. Ntm my dad had made a valid point: though the branches were on our side of the fence, the tree (on their property) still belonged to our neighbor. My enthrallment was always made worse when I visited my grands' 11 acres of land in Talbolton, GA. The entire span covered in a white, crunchy, chilly blanket during the winter (along with the wild life of deer and winter rabbits I got to watch just outside my little sitting nook in the corner of my grands' kitchen), the southern bench swing on their front porch and hot cocoa (or coffee when I could sneak some) and the roaring brick fireplace in the family room (built lovingly by my grandfather and his fall chopped wood logs). When I say I love the holidays, I couldn't be more OG.

Thanks for sharing your memories 😊 I don’t celebrate the Christmas holidays much but I do enjoy giving my girls their gifts.. they don’t play my Grinch games🤣🤣. I have celebrated Kwanzaa for the last three years. This is a tradition I started after the Christmas holidays.

I haven't gotten the opportunity to celebrate Kwanzaa. My family kinda dipped on that one. Maybe one-day I can tho.

Merry Christmas Nadia...I have enjoyed your story...It may sound a little sappy, but it brings me great joy at Christmas to server others...I think its a great idea for everyone to do what they can, you know? Weather its gift giving, or just being kind and holding a door for a senior...helping your neighbor hang their lights...making cookies for the Veterans...whatever...I like secret santa stuff too...lol...
